Established in 1848, Newton Waterproofing systems are the oldest UK suppliers of structural waterproofing and damp proofing systems to the construction industry. At Newton we are experts at providing the best solutions for architects, developers and homeowners to protect properties against water ingress and dampness. Our exceptional products are matched with a network of expert Newton Specialist Contractors (NSBCs) to provide a complete structural waterproofing and damp proofing service, including technical expertise, guaranteed installation and maintenance service, wherever you are and whatever the size of your project.
As the only truly independent waterproofing supplier in the UK and still family owned, we are proud of our continued growth and success which can be attributed to our expert waterproofing knowledge, innovation and family ethos. The waterproofing industry is competitive, with new suppliers, installers and products frequently available. We believe that within this niche and specialist industry, it is our level of free technical support that makes us stand out from our competitors. From our comprehensive training programmes for architects and contractors and RIBA-approved CPD training seminars, to our in-house design assistance and on-site quality assurance, we at Newton pride ourselves on providing unrestricted and expert technical support.
Here at Newton Waterproofing we are very excited to be National Building Awards finalists in both of the categories that we entered; the Green/Sustainability Award and Innovation of the Year. The National Building Awards offer a prestigious platform to raise the profile of Newton’s hard work and successes over recent years and the team are honoured to be formally acknowledged for the work we have achieved. In both categories, Newton has been recognised for the Newton Membrane Recycling Service, the first of its kind in the UK waterproofing industry, and our company-wide sustainability initiatives.
Since the Membrane Recycling Service was launched in 2017, it has gone from strength to strength. To ensure a closed-loop recycling service, Newton collaborate with our elite group of NSBCs to actively collect and recycle off-cuts of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) waterproofing membrane from across the UK, for reuse in the construction industry. In 2018, Newton prevented 5.275 tonnes of HDPE membrane from going to landfill and since launch, a total of 8.53 tonnes have been recycled. To put that into perspective, recycling 8.53 tonnes of plastic has prevented 9.80 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering the atmosphere and saved 38,306 Kilowatt Hours (kWh) of energy, which is enough energy to make over 1.3 million mugs of tea!
Furthermore, we at Newton Waterproofing have committed to reducing our product plastic packaging by 50% over the next 3 years. All our office and warehouse packaging waste is collected before being sent off to be separated and recycled, and these company-wide initiatives have increased the awareness of our employees, who are all now more conscious of their environmental impact and actively looking for ways to reduce it. This includes recycling paper, plastic, cardboard and crisp packets, as well as reducing the amount we print and, in some cases even purchasing hybrid cars.
We look forward to the National Building Awards 2019 ceremony on Wednesday 22nd May at Wembley Stadium. Visit our website for more information on what we do, how we work and what makes us so different.
